Hi there Newbie here,
Reading all the posts on which material to use and cutting tips, would like to add one.
Be very careful when using electrical screw drivers, whether this is an electric drill with a bit or a purpose designed screw driver. When using these tools especially in MDF stop just before the screw bottoms out and switch to a hand screw driver to complete the lock down, this will avoid stripping the wood from around the screw threads. It also happens with plywood.

Most power screwdrivers have a torque setting adjuster so once you've got it set up for the material you're using you can screw away without worrying about over penetration!
